No One is Righteous

We are looking at what our brother Paul is saying in Romans 3:10-18 which says- As it is written: There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know. There is no fear of God before their eyes.

This is from the NIV translation. These passages can be hard to swallow because we like to think of ourselves as not too bad. We are actually pretty good. The other guy is the problem. This is not the case in following Christ. We are sinners and deserve God’s wrath. When we can be honest with God like our brother David did in Psalm 51, Jesus truly becomes our savior. The cleansing of repentance wipes away our sins. We first have to confess that we are not righteous. We have never been. As Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden, we have followed. We are guilty and deserve death. Thank you Jesus for saving us in our sins by becoming sin for us and dying on the cross. Where the first Adam failed, Jesus (the last Adam) succeeded. The good news is truly the best news ever.
