1. Effectual calling- Matthew 22:14

FOR MANY ARE CALLED, BUT FEW ARE CHOSEN.  MATTHEW 22:14

Definition- God calls a person to himself.  This calling is so powerful by the Lord that it asks for people’s hearts.  Three kinds of call- 1) general (God’s invitation to all people), 2) special (Holy Spirit of God working specifically in the heart of an individual), and 3) effectual- (The Holy Spirit’s application of grace).

God is the author of the call and it is God the father who is the specific agent of this call. The nature of this call is a summons to participate in the call.  It is a high, holy, and heavenly call.  It is a pattern of determinate purpose, it is eternal, and it is in Jesus Christ the pattern is devised.  It is an act of God that we are actually united with Jesus Christ.  It is part of God’s eternal purpose of grace.
