TRULY, TRULY, I SAY TO YOU, UNLESS ONE IS BORN AGAIN THEY CANNOT SEE THE KINGDOM OF GOD.  NICODEMUS SAID TO HIM, HOW CAN A MAN BE BORN WHEN HE IS OLD?  CAN THEY ENTER A SECOND TIME INTO THEIR MOTHER’S WOMB AND BE BORN?  JESUS ANSWERED, TRULY, TRULY, I SAY TO YOU, UNLESS ONE IS BORN OF WATER AND THE HOLY SPIRIT, THEY CANNOT ENTER THE KINGDOM OF GOD.  THAT WHICH IS BORN OF THE FLESH IS FLESH, AND THAT WHICH IS BORN OF THE SPIRIT IS SPIRIT.  DO NOT MARVEL THAT I SAID TO YOU, YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN.  THE WIND BLOWS WHERE IT WISHES, AND YOU HEAR ITS SOUND, BUT YOU DO NOT KNOW WHERE IT COMES FROM OR WHERE IT GOES.  SO IT IS WITH EVERYONE WHO IS BORN OF THE SPIRIT.  JOHN 3:3-8

Definition- New birth by the Holy Spirit.  Once the call is answered, the grace of regeneration begins. (Ezekiel 36:26). We are a new creation that would seem to be a purification.  When we look at the John passage, we see that it purges away the defilement of our hearts and the Holy Spirit recreates in newness of life.  Born of water and born of Spirit is what is happening.  We do not sin because God’s seed abides in us. What are the fruits of regeneration, we overcome the world, abstinence from sin, self-control, incapacity to sin, freedom from the touch of the evil one, doing righteousness, love to God and to our neighbor.  The person born of the Holy Spirit is indwelt and directed by the Holy Spirit.
